March 2023 Wrap Up

Better Late than Never

Hi there,

March doesn’t really count as the “beginning” of the year, but I still habitually write 2022 on things. They say time flies when you’re having fun, but the sensation could more accurately be described as slipping through your fingers with the unrelenting speed and force of gravity and the slipperiness of a fish out of water, impossible no matter how fervently you want it.

This month has been packed with so much life that I’ve scarcely had time to get anything done. The month began with celebration: I began medical transition with my first dose of testosterone on March 4, 2021. To mark the occasion, my partner and I went on an adventure through Rogers Park, a neighborhood neither of us has spent much time in. We explored the Gerber-Hart Library Archives and the National Leather Museum and Archive. Queer history is, and has always been, so important to me, and I couldn’t imagine a more fulfilling way to spend my bonus birthday. My partner also had a delicious gluten-free cake made, and it was incredible (shout out to Chicago Sugar Daddies).

Mid-month, during his spring break from UIUC, my brother became our first extended-stay guest in our new apartment. He spent five days with us, exploring the city and catching up. I’m delighted to have him in closer proximity and to get to know him as…
